Help! My earliest ancestor on my great grandmother's side was a John Coward who married a Christian Dodge in Sherborne, Dorset, England on 9 April 1632. Beyond that is a brick wall. I live in New Zealand and am not able to easily access original documents. A child of this couple was a John Coward who married, 13 January 1662 in Sherborne, Elizabeth Penny (alt. sp. Poenie). The only 'Dodges' I have found lived some distance away from Sherborne and seem unlikely, given how little people traveled in those days. Any help finding earlier records would be greatly appreciated.
